w512mb.exe is not needed to run nfs2se on systems with 1GB or more of ram.
Instead, you can use nfs2senxp.sdb or nfs2seaxp.sdb to set the application
compatability.

You'll probably need to tell windows what to do with SDB files,
or you can manually run \windows\sdbinst.exe via run or command line.

Click on start, then my computer to open up a file / folder window.
Click on tools, folder options, then file types. Next create a new file
type assocation for SDB files to "AppFix & AppHelp Installer" by browsing
to \windows\system32\sdbinst.exe, and choose it.

Then just extract the sdb files and double click on them to install
the application compatability.

nfs2sea.sdb is for the 3d version of nfs2se, nfs2sea.exe.
You need a glide wrapper to use nfs2sea.exe on windows xp.
Do a web search for one. The dgvoodo 1.5 beta version works fine.

nfs2sen.sdb is for the standard version of nfs2se, nfs2sen.exe.

To uninstall the sdb info, open a command window, go to the directory
where the sdb file is and enter:

\windows\system32\sdbinst.exe -u nfs2sea.sdb

  or

\windows\system32\sdbinst.exe -u nfs2sen.sdb

If you need to use w512mb.exe for a different program, then here is
the info:

w512mb.zip contains w512mb.exe.

w512mb.exe is a windows program that allocates 512mb of ram, then goes idle
until you close it. This program allows Need For Speed 2 SE and earlier games
to run on Windows XP. You'll probably have to run multiple instances of it in
order to get NFS to run. If so, you may want to create a batch file to do
this. For example, on a system with 2GB of ram and a 2GB swap file, you'll
probably need to run 4 instances of w512mb.exe. Included is a sample batch
file, w2048mb.bat, that includes the following lines:

start /min w512mb.exe
start /min w512mb.exe
start /min w512mb.exe
start /min w512mb.exe

To determine the number of instances of w512mb.exe you need to run before
running NFS2SE on Windows XP, go through this series of steps.

Run 1 instance of w512mb.exe
Run nfs2se.
If it fails, log out and log back in.

Run 2 instances of w512mb.exe
Run nfs2se.
If it fails, log out and log back in.

Run 3 instances of w512mb.exe
Run nfs2se.
If it fails, log out and log back in.

... repeat this until nfs2se runs on your system.

Then edit w2048mb.bat to run the proper number of w512mb.exe's.
Make a shortcut to this batch file to make it easier to launch:
Click on start, programs, electronic arts.
Right click on Need For Speed II SE, and click on open.
Right click on the Need For Speed II SE shortcut window.
Select new, shortcut, and browse to w2048mb.bat, and then
complete the creation of the shortcut.
