Glide - проприетарный низкоуровневый API, введенный 3dfx Interactive для чипов собственного производства, схожий с OpenGL и ориентированный на игровые приложения. Пользовался популярностью в конце 90-ых.
Существует три версии Glide:
- dos-glide2x (glide2x.ovl)
- win-glide2x (glide2x.dll)
- win-glide3x (glide3x.dll)
Также существовал glide1x.dll в ранних версиях драйверов 3dfx, но факта его использования в игровых приложениях не зафиксировано. Разные версии API между собой несовместимы, в следствие чего на протяжении всего существования чипов 3dfx постоянно дорабатывались все три версии API Glide. Большинство эмуляторов поддерживает только win-glide2x, dos-glide2x эмулируется очень малым количеством эмуляторов.
Glide3x является самым последним и совершенным API Glide. Преимущества Glide3x:
- Улучшена производительность (вероятно, вследствие оптимизации кода);
- Игры поддерживают комбинацию клавиш ALT+TAB;[1]
