Hacks / translations for your favorite 8-16-bit console games

The first news is that the Mega Drive homebrew game Paprium has finally been emulated. You can play it with the GenesisPlusGX core for RetroArch or with the latest FB Neo betas, in which case you'll need to rename the game accordingly using the emu's Mega Drive dat.



Now, this is a new-ish hack for Revenge of Shinobi (Japanese ROM, Mega Drive) that restores colors to some bosses and the credit roll to the game.



Is it worth trying? We'll see. The changes don't seem that numerous, but...

Finally there's an English re-translation for Assault Suit Leynos (Mega Drive too) that claims to remove western censorship:

Mega Man 7 Restoration has just been updated to v1.2.



It's a SNES hack that restores to the US version of the game content cut from the Japanese version. To be exact:

This hack restores all the content that got cut from the American version of this game back to it, it also fixes the game's script and changes the ending to be more like the one from the Japanese version, changes the MM7 logos to look more like their Japanese counterparts and adds a feature where you can skip cutscenes by pressing the 'Start' button as well.

Today I bring you yet more improvement hacks for the unlicensed Mortal Kombat games for the NES:

1) MORTAL KOMBAT II Arkade Edition.



You need to apply it to Mortal Kombat II Special (Unl).

This one also seems interesting. It's a widescreen hack for Great Circus Mystery (Genesis / Mega Drive):



Horizontal resolution changes from 256 to 320 pixels.

I love this kind of hacks. An apparently minor change that makes you look at an old game again.

In other words, horizontal resolution is changed to 320 pixels and visuals corrected.

I've noticed two English translations for Playstation Vita games, a system I don't think I've never mentioned here before.

They're for Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax Ignition...



...and Ebikore+ Amagami:

 

This new hack for Sonic the Hedgehog (Genesis / Mega Drive) looks very nice, although it's marked as unfinished. It's called Sonic 1: Under Neat:



These are the features:

- Sonic 3 engine ported to Sonic 1 now called the (Sonic Clean Engine).
- New color palettes for all zones. (HotFix patch has Gavin?s sprite colors)
- Sonic CD?s extended camera.
- Has the 3 elemental shields.
- Can play as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Sonic & Tails, Knux and Tails.
- You can turn hyper once all emeralds are collected.
- Different soundtrack and some new and unused music tracks in sound test.
- New kick and snare drum with Sonic 3?s small, medium and floor tom sets.
- Uses Clownacy's Sonic 2 clone driver in 68k.
- Uses Vladikcomper?s Mega PCM.
- Audio and music is optimized for PAL 50Hz playback.
- Works 100% on original hardware via an EverDrive flash cart. (Confirmed).
- Checksum is fixed (always handy).

This other hack also seems interesting. It simplifies the controls for Nosferatu (SNES) and improves a few other things:

I've always played the Super Star Wars games for the SNES under emulation, so I don't mind if they're hard. However their difficulty is infamous on twelve systems, and the reason many SNES pads were thrown into walls. Well, suffer no more, now there are Redux patches for all three games that reduce their difficulty.

Oh, and although the MSX is hardly a console, you should know that the legendary Turbo R RPG Illusion City just got an English translation from MSX Translations .

BlackPaladin has released another English translation for the FDS. This time it's Apple Town Monogatari: Little Computer People, a simulation game in which you control a little girl and you see how she goes about her everyday life in her little house. You can send her mail (You can't read it!), send her food or milk, deliver a Famicom to her home and participate in some fortune telling games as well!

This is another hack that has eluded us until now, Contra 2in1 (NES):



It merges the levels of Contra and Super C, using the engine of the later.

I remember there were fans of Ghosts 'n Goblins / MakaiMura in the board... this is Ghosts 'n Goblins +, a new hack for the NES port of the game:



It has a series of improvements for the stage select screen, title and ending screens, map screen and player 2 mode.

And this other one also seems interesting. It's a hack of Rock n' Roll Racing (SNES) with new tracks that so far only were available in the Blizzard Arcade Collection (PC). However, it has a minor glitch and it hangs at the end of the game. Hopefully they'll fix that soon.

Many moons ago I mentioned X-Men Ultimate, a hack for X-Men (Genesis / Mega Drive that tweaked its gameplay. Ultimate X-Men 2 is a new hack for its sequel X-Men 2: Clone Wars by the same author that also tweaks some in-game mechanics. I'm not very familiar with the game, so you'll have to decide if it is worth trying or not.

I just came in to say that The King of Fighters: Battle de Paradise (NGPC) just got an English translation.



It's a board game that spoofs the King of Fighters series.

Although not an 8/16 bit game, today I've heard of an English translation for Belzerion (Panasonic 3DO). We don't usually get translations for this system.



The game is described as an adventure, but it has FPS scenes where you pilot a mech and get to blow shit up.
