Hacks / translations for your favorite 8-16-bit console games

Romhack Plaza just brought us a bunch of new and updated color hacks for the Mega Drive by dolsilwa. Check them out!

 

As I mentioned earlier, dolsilwa seems to be updating many of his color hacks for the Genesis / Mega Drive, so I'm going to list them for those interested.

Samurai Shodown --> v1.5, improves on Pyron's previous clor hack

Turbo Outrun --> Updated to 3.0



There's also a new Streets of Rage III hack out there.



It's called Definitive Patch and is a compilation of previous patches, including:

. English Translation by Twilight Translations: Translates the game completely into English.
· Fix Patch by GSaurus: Fixes some bugs and collision boxes. Restores Zan's grab combo finisher animation. Increases the overall difficulty of the game.
· Boss Palette Patch by GSaurus: Makes the NPC versions of Ash, Victy, and Shiva use their main color palette.
· Some QoL changes by me: Victy, Mania difficulty and 9 lives unlocked by default. Game is region free.

F-Zero: MAX League is a new hack for F-Zero (SNES). It attemps to substitute the original tracks for the secret tracks from F-Zero 99.

Romhacking just whispered in my ear that me there is a brand new English translation for Fray: Shugyou Hen, Game Gear version.

It's a shoot 'em up set in the Xak universe.

This sounds interesting. It's a patch that updates Famicom Wars ' gameplay (NES) to what we're used to in Advance Wars .



The changes involve:

- Attacking units get first strike (see https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/9580/ )
- The damage done by units is the same as Advance Wars
- The cost of units are the same as Advance Wars
- The unit movement is the same as Advance Wars
- The “Fighter B” unit has been replaced by a Battle Copter unit

It' also compatible with the English patch by Stardust Crusaders .

Two Mega Drive hacks just got updated to newer versions:



Golden Axe - Arcade Colors v1.4.

I don't think this is the last we'll hear from this hack, the author has some plans for it and has requested help from other programmers.



Mortal Kombat Arcade Edition Enhanced v2.4.

 

Another Mega Drive update, if you feel like giving Super Monaco GP a fresh coat of paint:



Apart from brighter colors, it also restores the proper drive and team names for 1989/1990.

I try not to recomend Super Mario hacks, because too often they become too difficult after a few screens. But this one seems so cute I can't resist... this is Toad's World 2:

The Grandmasters' Edition hack for TMNT Tournament Fighters (SNES) has reached v3.8, which hopefully will be the final release.



The main goal of this hack is to make the game's final bosses completely playable and integrated into the game.

They authors have even uploaded a modified version of the manual in PDF format.

There's another Street Fighter II hack ready for download, just in case you didn't have enough of them. This time it is for SSF2 (SNES version) and it's called Blasto Remix.



Acording to the author, it makes the following changes to the game:

In this remix version of Super Street Fighter II for SNES, the game receives new colors on the title screen, adjustments to the intro animation, and 8 new color palettes for all 16 characters. Furthermore, the life bars have been modified to follow the style of Super Street Fighter II Turbo, making the presentation even more dynamic and nostalgic.

Wat can I say? I'm a sucker for SF2 hacks, and as far as they keep making them, I'll keep downloading them.

The English translation for Banana Prince (NES) has just been updated to v1.1a:

And even better, now there's also a restoration hack that is compatible with said translation.

 

BlackPaladin just released an English translation for Dragon Ball: Shenron no Nazo, one of the many Dragon Ball games for the NES.



The game had western releases as Dragon Power (with all references to Dragon Ball removed) and Dragon Ball: Le Secret Du Dragon, which kept the references but is only in French. This is the real deal, the Japanese version with a brand new English script.

The English translation for Rushing Beat Shura: The Eternal Conflict (SNES) has been updated to v1.1.



According to the authors, the game was released only in Japan; the North American release, The Peace Keepers, was substantially altered (renamed characters, reworked story and dialogue, and content changes).

This patch translates the original Japanese release into English, keeping its own story, characters, and tone rather than reverting to the altered Peace Keepers localization.

Today I've noticed an addendum patch for Densetsu no Ogre Battle - The March of the Black Queen (Japan) (NP) . It needs to be applied over the English translation by FinS. and claims to fix a critical bug.



In turn, this version of Ogre Battle has some differences over the regular one:

This version had extra options including saving on the tactical map and adjusting the order of the units. The codes in name entry are the same including a 'WIPEDATA' option which clears sram.

 

Alright, not a hack and not a translation. But the Super Mario Bros. homebrew port for the Sega Master System is reaching new highs.
