translations from Russian

newbie here, i was wondering if is there any reason why no section on this forum is for russian to english translations (or other languages)? i can see that it's a small fraction of the total users but maybe others could join for this exact reason.

anyways i'm here because i want to translate a russian game in english (mainly text but if possible audio too), i know the technical part but i know nothing of russian so i'm searching for volunteers, i know there is section for these things but it's all in russian, so i hope an admin can suggest a way to do this efficiently, also because it's not clear or not specified if such thing is simply never done before or instead not wanted/allowed.

i couldn't find any game here translated from russian (but maybe i'm wrong)

There are many games at Old-Games, that were translated from Russian. If to set Search's settings properly, you'll find all these games; follow these links:

Though, many of these games are puzzles or for children... But you can sort games "by rating", and you'll see excellent games.

 

But I'm sure all these games in the list were intended to be in English at some point by developers themselves. I guess OP meant fan translations from Russian to English. I can't name any examples of it, usually it's from Japanese to English and from English to any language like Russian, Spanish etc. Our translation team actually made an attempt to make an English translation of DOOM 2D game (made in Russia in late 90's), but it wasn't properly finished, and the game itself being a simple sidescroller with a small amount of text, doesn't need a translation tbh.

As for our translation team - even though the idea of translating the game from Russian to English sounds interesting enough (at least for me), we specialize primarily on really old DOS-era games, so I don't think we will take it. Maybe some of the guys from Zone of Games forum can help, I dunno. Also, I may be wrong, but I suppose that the game may already had an English version, at least someone came up with this English name.

 

@Grongy, no, many of these games were created in 2-3 languages.
Although, yes, 40-50% games of the list haven't Russian original and were created as "international" games. I cannot divide these games from games with Russian by "Search" instruments. But their creators are Russian-speaking people .

Fan-made translations... It seems I saw these somethere, but they mostly are mods, not games.

since there are around zero info about it i have no idea who decided the english name (but honestly it's a literal translation so anyone could have done it), the only reference of an english version i know is from a famous russian torrent site where the uploader claims to have both russian and english languages, but as i verified it's only russian

also i remember reading that it was a russian exclusive

if someone is still interested, just to specify, the text is around 1000 lines of 80 characters each

 

Morphx/Симбионт/The Swarm which got fan translated using the digital only TAGES DRM version, unfortunately had a flaw with the translation in the later levels. I have now extracted the files in questions and improved it. I were gonna create a ui.pak file again, but when I did that the game got stuck on the loading screen. However it works with the pak file extracted and I'm 3/4 into the game now.

I guess the translation is more of a fix than a fan translation, as it used the official translation files with some manual fixes to fit with the Russian version of the game.

Extract pak.ui below with quickbms and replace documents_strings.txt inside data\ui\strings. Then delete the pak.ui file inside gamedir\data.

Flaw in question:


If you are trying to mod the game yourself, you might get stuck on a black screen before the Buka logo, try restarting your PC first if this happens. I had some issues when switching between playing with the pak files and decompressed ones.

I used the Russian retail copy (4GB image) to test it with.

 

The project is coming along. I have figured out which wave files that you get after extracting cinematic_voices.xwb original filenames with the help of the subtitles. The filenames should be the same as the text on the very left. I took care to take notes as I went Incase I made any mistakes.



Despite gum transform 3, 4, 5, 6 being present in the Russian version of the game too, the game play a different file which already have those voiceovers built in and ignore those files, I did some editing of the Russian file and added English voiceovers to it. A bit crude, but at least you get the voiceovers now.

 

Kreed Battle For Saviator had a pretty good fan translation, only the first on got an official english release. The same cant be said for the game itself.
