NEC PC-98 guide

This game seems to be popular with translators. There are translations not only into English (PC-98, TurboGrafx-16 CD, MSX versions), but also into Spanish (MSX version) and French (TurboGrafx-16 CD version).

It looks like only the first part Dead of the Brain has been translateed. The author of the patch wrote about it in the "Readmi File": "The tools built for script extraction/insertion and editing for DotB1 also аunction perfectly for DotB2, but I don't currently have any plans to translate the text of DotB2".

This is good news! Now gamers can play the PC-98 version these three games about Arle in English.

 

Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes for the PC-98 just got en English translation:



There was already an official English version for the PC Engine CD, but according to the authors of this one it has flaws.

They also announce they'll begin work on the game's sequel, The Legend of Heroes 2 .

Today I've heard of an English patch for Rance IV: Legacy of The Sect. It's not exactly a new translation, instead it uses the text from a previous project that translated its Windows port.



The game is an RPG with erotic bits.

They seem determined to translate the whole Rance series... today I've noticed an English patch for Rance 4.2: Angel Army:



It's an RPG with erotic scenes. And just like with the previous translation, they've adapted the script of the Windows version.

Perhaps, several games with the official translation being available on GOG boosted the series popularity.

Today an English patch for Alice's Cottage II has been released.



Acording to Romhack Plaza, the game includes three short full games, “Naguri Makuri Tower”, “The Return of Okayu Fever” and “Policewoman DA”, user-submitted content (CG, light novels, and even a short ADV), a ridiculously extensive quiz section, and the usual omake content (developer commentaries, jukebox, exclusive CG, user feedback, Alicesoft product timeline…)

Adult content? Of course there's adult content!

Just seen an English translation for Variable Geo , a fighting game for the platform:



It's just... not a good game. Originally designed for the offices, the PC-98 didn't have graphics hardware suitable for intensive games, and this one shows why fast paced games for the platform weren't the best idea. Some of the games in this series have SNES, PSX ad Saturn versions, and those are more playable.

EDIT 2: The game just asked me to change a parameter in the PC-98 BIOS in order to work. Those who don't know how to do it have a proper explanation here.

 

I tried to play Variable Geo two years ago. The controls (keyboard and fighting!) in this game is awful.
But this game is a rare representative of fighting genre on PC-98.

It is a pretty rotten game, IMHO. And the reviews I checked had very few good things to say about it. Still good to have an English translation.

 

Today I wake up... late, naked and hungover. But that's another story. Also with a new PC-98 English translation, this time for the adventure Cyber Arms Val-Kaizer, which I admit I've never tried before.

Aegankai no Shizuku is a bit like Myst. Without hentai-content (unlike other games developed by Illusion).

 

Glad to finally know something about it. I tried it earlier but couldn't get past the title screen.
